Google+ is still only in field trial with limited access as we scale the system. Users have to be invited, sign up with a profile in order to use it. However, the growth on Google+ has been great–and I’m excited to release some new metrics for you today

As expected, Google+ has hit the 10 million mark. Google CEO, Larry Page confirmed it during the Google’s Q2 Earnings Call while he pats on the back of the Google+ team for doing a wonderful job. Apart from that, he shared a few more interesting stats during the event.
- Google+ users are sharing and receiving over one billion items everyday
- The +1 Button is being used more than 2.3 billion times a day
- Android now has over 250,000 apps and over 550,000 Android Devices activated a day
- Google Chrome, on the other hand, has grown significantly with over 160 million Chrome users
According to the Q2 Earning report released by Google, Google’s sites generated $6.23 billion (a 20 percent increase) while paid clicks on Google sites and AdSense partner sites has increased by 18% YoY, and the average cost-per-click increased about 12%.

Do you feel proud of yourself, since you have a Google+ account while your friends do not have one? Well, you don’t have to be anymore, because according to a recent analysis done by Paul Allen, entrepreneur and co-founder of Ancestry, indicates that Google+ is nearing the 10 million user mark and believes it will touch the 20 million mark by the end of this week. Although Google+ is currently under a limited field test, it has seen tremendous growth since its announcement. 24 hours after the launch of Google+, the invite feature had to be closed down due to high demand of Google+ Invites. On July 10, Google+ had over 7.3 million users registered with a growth rate of 365 percent in just six days.
Google probably never expected the amount of popularity that it has gained until now. A few days back, Google+ users were bombarded with multiple email notifications spamming their inbox due to a coding error, after which the service that kept track of Google+ notification system ran out of disk space. Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice-President of Social for Google, however, apologized for the inconvenience caused.
Google's quietly pitter-pattering its acquisitive ways back into the controversial realm of facial recognition technology. Founded by a trio of PhD's from Carnegie Mellon University, this three-man strong outfit specializes in the sort of object recognition software you've come to know as "tagging." It was only last week when Google's new baby Google reached to 10 million users and now in just 1 week after it added a million more.
Say it ain't so -- not only is a phone not delayed, it's actually planning to come out earlier than its quoted launch window? This particular miracle is the exception much more than the rule, but Microsoft's latest Windows Phone OS (nicknamed "Mango,") might come out prior to the anticipated fall release. According to Nikkei, Fujitsu will offer the very first Mango device, a waterproof phone called the IS12T, on KDDI "as early as late next month." The phone is to be sold for 30,000 - 40,000 yen ($378 - 505), a reasonable amount of coin for what will likely be a higher-end device. And -- if it's the same handset showcased at this week's Worldwide Partner Conference -- a pink version will be on sale. So, what's more enticing: a Hello Kitty-flavored Windows Phone, or a Samsung Galaxy S II lookalike running Mango? It's a tough call.
Hotmail's spent the past few years playing catch up with the competition, but for the most part, it hasn't done anything particularly groundbreaking with its services. Earth shattering might not be the appropriate descriptor for its latest addition, but Hotmail's added a helpful new feature to distinguish plain old spam from the kind that comes form a trusted source. Now, when you get an email from a friend that smells of something sea dwelling -- say a plea for some extra scratch from abroad -- you can select "My friend's been hacked!" from the "Mark as" menu, alerting the powers that be that your friend's account has been hacked. When you mark a missive as junk, you can likewise click a box that reads: "I think this person was hacked!" Once that's done, the spammers are kicked to the curb, and your friend is put through an "account recovery flow" the next time they attempt to log in. On the prevention front, Hotmail will soon roll out a new service that blocks users from selecting common passwords. It might not be enough to coax us over, but maybe this time the other guys could learn a few lessons.
Photovine is the latest photo sharing service from Slide, which was acquired by Google back in 2010 to aim the “Social Gaming” domain. Last month there had been speculations about the service and now it is a reality. However, right now it is in the invite-only stage which means you will have to either wait for it to go live or head over to the Photovine official website and request an invite. Until then, let us take a quick look at its features.
