Turn Windows 7 into ubuntu 11.04

There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages that each operating system has. One has the most compatibility with current software, one has the most polish, and one has both but isn’t as supported. OK, maybe Linux doesn’t always have both, but recently it does carry its own class of design and polish. This is especially true for systems like Ubuntu where the developers are going out of their way to create the “next desktop”.
Let’s say that you are a Windows user because all of your programs work with it, but you like how the new release of Ubuntu, 11.04 “Natty Narwhal” looks.

Here's A Way

Installing Smaba in Ubuntu 11.04

Samba is a implementation of SMB/CIFS networking protocol for Unix systems. It provides support for cross platform file and printer sharing that means you can share your files across computers (which may have different OS). Samba can also function as an NT4-style domain controller, and can integrate with both NT4 domains and Active Directory realms as a member server.Samba can be run on nearly all Linux distributions and many other OS like Windows,Mac etc.

Top 6 Quicklists for Ubuntu 11.04 Natty to Enhance Unity Launcher Functionality

Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal has been a revelation of sorts in terms of UI improvements it brought to the table. One of the highlights of the new Unity UI is the launcher that sits on the left side of Ubuntu 11.04 Unity desktop. Now I can access my most favorite apps much more faster and my desktop will remain clean at the same time. But i didn't noticed the limitations of Unity launcher until I implemented the following quicklists which further enhanced the Ubuntu Unity launcher functionality. I am pretty darn sure that you are also going to love these awesome Unity launcher improvements as I did.

Sharing between VMWare's ubuntu 11.04 and host windows 7

Sometimes, you just have to move files from your VirtualBox’s Ubuntu 11.04 virtual machines to a Windows 7 host, but how?  It’s simple really!  There are couple ways of doing it, but I prefer to keep it simple.  The steps are below:

There are thousands of companies out there fighting toooth and nail just to stand one above and have reputation their competitor will envy.

Google bought PittPatt to you know face to face

Google's quietly pitter-pattering its acquisitive ways back into the controversial realm of facial recognition technology. To do that, the company busted out its oversized wallet to fold Pittsburgh-based PittPatt into the Mountain View borg. Founded by a trio of PhD's from Carnegie Mellon University, this three-man strong outfit specializes in the sort of object recognition software you've come to know as "tagging." Is this a reversal of the Do No Evil tech giant's prior waffling on the dubious visioning tech, or just another massive weapon in its social networking crusade against Facebook? We'd err on the side of both, although the company's new employees aren't exactly playing their cards for us to see. A brief statement on the

Now, use Google credit cards to book ads

Google Inc is introducing a credit card for its advertising customers, offering its clients a credit line to try and drum up business as competition in the online ad market heats up.

The AdWords Business credit card marks Google's first foray into the world of vendor financing, common among hardware makers such as IBM Corp. It lets marketers spend more on its search ads when the need arises.Google is offering the card to select US clients with what it calls a competitive interest rate, an ample credit line and no annual fee. The catch: It can only be used to buy search advertising on the world’s No 1 internet search engine.

A study by online measurement company ComScore revealed it had doubled that number in the past seven days, despite the service remaining an invitation-only affair.

Preparing Your Mac for Mac OS X Lion

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is right around the corner. Is your Mac ready?
About a week and a half ago, Apple released the Golden Master version of Lion to Apple Developers. The final version is expected to hit the Mac App Store soon — perhaps in the next few days.
Mac OS X Lion will bring lots of new features to the Mac operating system, including enhanced multi-touch gesture support, the ability to swipe between fullscreen apps and a new auto-save system.
Upgrading an operating system can be a time-consuming process — no matter how easy the manufacturer tries to make it. To limit the potential headaches, we’ve put together this guide that should help you get your Mac ready for Lion.

Microsoft posted record revenue despite drowning trend for windows ,PCs

Microsoft’s fourth quarter and  full-year revenue is quite outstanding but most important thing is sales of windows and PCs still going down thanks to Aplle;s ipad and ipad 2.

Microsoft reported Q4 revenues of $17.4 billion, an 8% jump over the same quarter in 2010. Revenues for its fiscal year, which ended June 30, were also a record $69.9 billion, up 12% from fiscal 2010.
The company’s net income for the quarter was $5.87 billion. For the year, it was $23.2 billion. Those were increases of 30% and 23%, respectively.

Nokia's Q2 2011 earnings are disappointing but as expected !!!!!!!

Nokia ,one's worlds used to be best and largest smartphone maker .In 90's it was who started making smartphone and dominated the market for years

But its the resurgence of cuperintino giant Apple's Iphone  that changed the game forever and gave new dimension to its meaning and later Android surpassed Symbian platform for most used mobile smartphone os worldwide.

Fujitsu to launch first Windows Phone Mango handset in... August?

Say it ain't so -- not only is a phone not delayed, it's actually planning to come out earlier than its quoted launch window? This particular miracle is the exception much more than the rule, but Microsoft's latest Windows Phone OS (nicknamed "Mango,") might come out prior to the anticipated fall release. According to Nikkei, Fujitsu will offer the very first Mango device, a waterproof phone called the IS12T, on KDDI "as early as late next month." The phone is to be sold for 30,000 - 40,000 yen ($378 - 505), a reasonable amount of coin for what will likely be a higher-end device. And -- if it's the same handset showcased at this week's Worldwide Partner Conference -- a pink version will be on sale. So, what's more enticing: a Hello Kitty-flavored Windows Phone, or a Samsung Galaxy S II lookalike running Mango? It's a tough call.

The Internet of Things [Infographic]

In 2008, the number of devices that connected to the Internet exceeded the number of people. That number continues to rise, thanks to a growing number of connected devices and gizmos, ranging from televisions to soda machines. Folks at Cisco have put together this infographic to showcase the growth of the Internet of things.

Twitter now delivers 350 billion tweets each day

twitter
Twitter now delivers an astonishing 350 billion tweets each day, the company said on Friday. ”Delivering 350 billion Tweets a day is a terribly fun engineering challenge. But, it doesn’t capture how passionate our users are,” the company said from its official Twitter Engineering account.
Coincidentally we’re sure, the news comes just one day after Google bragged that it had amassed 10 million Google+ users in just two weeks, and that these users collectively share 1 billion items each day. Google+ has quite a way to go before it is anywhere near as popular as Twitter, of course, but it’s certainly doing well for a 2-week-old product.

CyanogenMod 7 Has Half A Million Served

Supported by a team of developers, maintainers, and community staff, CyanogenMod has become one of the most popular customized aftermarket ROMs for Android devices. GoogleMinus Tells You Who Removed You From Google Plus Circles

We are all human beings and definitely love to have friends. However, unlike friends we meet in real life, Social networks like Twitter, Facebook and Google+ allow us to get in touch with people we have never met (or may never meet) in our lives.
That said, initially people do accept your friendship but as time goes some of them may unfollow you or unfriend you. There have been ways to find out who unfollows you on Twitter or who unfriends you on Facebook, but what about Google+?

Android 3.2 SDK now available, new features get detailed

And just like that, it's official. After hearing about the next incremental step in Honeycomb's journey by way of Huawei'sMediaPad, we've seen breadcrumbs about its functional differences. Today, we're being given the full shebang -- Google has just made official v3.2, boosting the API level to 13 and releasing the SDK into the wild in one fell swoop. The new build brings along optimizations for a "wider range of tablets," as well as "compatibility zoom for fixed-sized apps," media sync from SD card (huzzah!) and an extended screen support API. Head on down to the links below for

LG takes Gingerbread-sporting Optimus Net and LG takes Gingerbread-sporting Optimus Net and

LG Optimus Pro and Optimus Net
Gingerbread is not just for the high-end folks -- even the entry-level guys need a little rhizome flavored love now and again. LG understands that, and it's why the company is introducing a pair devices to its Optimus line dubbed the Net and Pro. The Optimus Pro, just like its similarly monikered Droid Pro, is a candybar QWERTY device with a 2.8-inch touchscreen. The Pro comes in a trio of color options, including something called "titan."

GScreen's dual-screen SpaceBook touts twin 17-inchers, now up for pre-order

Look out, ThinkPad W700ds -- there's a new dual-screen beast in town, and it's not settling for second best. After first appearing in September of 2009, we hadn't heard a peek from GScreen save for one brief blip in 2010. Now, however, it seems that a dream has become reality. The first run of SpaceBooks is now up for pre-order, with each one offering a pair of 17.3-inch displays that boast a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution.

Now Hotmail with 'My friend's been hacked!' feature

Hotmail adds Hotmail's spent the past few years playing catch up with the competition, but for the most part, it hasn't done anything particularly groundbreaking with its services. Earth shattering might not be the appropriate descriptor for its latest addition, but Hotmail's added a helpful new feature to distinguish plain old spam from the kind that comes form a trusted source. Now, when you get an email from a friend that smells of something sea dwelling -- say a plea for some extra scratch from abroad -- you can select "My friend's been hacked!" from the "Mark as" menu, alerting the powers that be that your friend's account has been hacked. When you mark a missive as junk, you can likewise click a box that reads: "I think this person was hacked!" Once that's done, the spammers are kicked to the curb, and your friend is put through an "account recovery flow" the next time they attempt to log in. On the prevention front, Hotmail will soon roll out a new service that blocks users from selecting common passwords. It might not be enough to coax us over, but maybe this time the other guys could learn a few lessons.

HP TouchPad goes on sale in the UK, starts at £399 for 16GB WiFi model

Here's an interesting titbit: HP's TouchPad has already begun to ship to speciality shops in the land of untamed energy usage and a holier-than-thou attitude, but for the pernickety among us, you may know that the company's first webOS slate hasn't actually hit the streets of Londontown. Until now, ole chap. The 16GB WiFi model is going for £399, while a doubling of capacity will tack on a few extra quid. It's available now directly from HP's webstore, but if mum always criticised your rampant online shopping sprees, we hear aeroplanes and coupés are colourful alternatives for acquisition.

Sneak Peek At Photovine, Google’s New Photo Sharing App for Smartphones

google-photovinePhotovine is the latest photo sharing service from Slide, which was acquired by Google back in 2010 to aim the “Social Gaming” domain. Last month there had been speculations about the service and now it is a reality. However, right now it is in the invite-only stage which means you will have to either wait for it to go live or head over to the Photovine official website and request an invite. Until then, let us take a quick look at its features.

Could Apple Shut Down Android in the US?

As we all know, Apple has been involved in patent infringement lawsuits with some of the most popular Android smartphone makers, including HTC, Motorola and Samsung. On Friday, a US International Trade Commission judge ruled that HTC did infringe on two patents that Apple mentioned in its complaint. HTC has appealed against the ruling but it is very likely that the judge’s original ruling will be upheld.

Now, there are three scenarios which are most likely to play out.

Google+ to Have 20 Million Users by the End of This Week

UPDATE: Google CEO, Larry Page, confirmed on his Google+ profile that Google+ has reached the 10 million user mark.

Google+ is still only in field trial with limited access  as we scale the system. Users have to be invited, sign up with a profile in order to use it. However, the growth on Google+ has been great–and I’m excited to release some new metrics for you today
Over 10M people have joined Google+. Great achievement for the team
As expected, Google+ has hit the 10 million mark. Google CEO, Larry Page confirmed it during the Google’s Q2 Earnings Call while he pats on the back of the Google+ team for doing a wonderful job. Apart from that, he shared a few more interesting stats during the event.
  • Google+ users are sharing and receiving over one billion items everyday
  • The +1 Button is being used more than  2.3 billion times a day
  • Android now has over 250,000 apps and over 550,000 Android Devices activated a day
  • Google Chrome, on the other hand, has grown significantly with over 160 million Chrome users
According to the Q2 Earning report released by Google, Google’s sites generated $6.23 billion (a 20 percent increase) while paid clicks on Google sites and AdSense partner sites has increased by 18% YoY, and the average cost-per-click increased about 12%.
Read the complete report on Google Q2 2011 Results.
Do you feel proud of yourself, since you have a Google+ account while your friends do not have one? Well, you don’t have to be anymore, because according to a recent analysis done by Paul Allen, entrepreneur and co-founder of Ancestry, indicates that Google+ is nearing the 10 million user mark and believes it will touch the 20 million mark by the end of this week.
Although Google+ is currently under a limited field test, it has seen tremendous growth since its announcement. 24 hours after the launch of Google+, the invite feature had to be closed down due to high demand of Google+ Invites. On July 10, Google+ had over 7.3 million users registered  with a growth rate of 365 percent in just six days.
Google probably never expected the amount of popularity that it has gained until now. A few days back, Google+ users were bombarded with multiple email notifications spamming their inbox due to a coding error, after which the service that kept track of Google+ notification system ran out of disk space. Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice-President of Social for Google, however, apologized for the inconvenience caused.

Scammers Are Using VLC Media Player To Spread Malware

One of the greatest things about an open source project is sharing the source code with everyone, and fixing bugs and adding new features as a community. However some time it gets abused.
In a recent blog post, VLC developer Ludovic Fauvet said that scammers are taking advantage of the availability of the VLC source code to trick users. The scammers are adding malware and adware to VLC and releasing them as the original product.

Google+ Added $20 Billion To Google’s Market Cap

How much is social worth to Google? Investors added $20 billion to Google’s market cap the first week after the launch of Google+ on June 28. A Morgan Stanley downgrade on Friday, brought the total down to $15.8 billion because of doubts whether Google will indeed be able to capitalize on new products such as Google+. But somewhere in between there, give or take a few billion, is how much more the market thinks Google is worth than before the launch of Google+.

iPhone 5 / 4S: the rumor

It's July, there is no new iPhone, and the analysts are restless. This time last year, Apple had already announced and begun shipping the iPhone 4 -- in fact, every single previous model has been announced in June, save for the first, which was unveiled in January 2007. So, now that the month has come and gone and WWDC with it, what are all of the tech publications out there to do? Make with the rumor stories, naturally -- and over the past few weeks, they've been coming fast and furious.

Prosthetic eye digital camera with video

Nobody with binocular vision would consider replacing a functional natural eye with a digital camera. But Tanya Vlach's vision is monocular, after losing one of her eyes in a car accident. A matching ocular prosthesis gives the San Francisco native a normal appearance, but it's unable to provide vision -- in its current state, at least. Vlach turned to Kickstarter for donations that would allow her to install a unique, waterproof in-eye camera, theoretically capable of transmitting 720p HD video wirelessly to a mobile app, and zooming and capturing still images using a blink-activated sensor. Features also on the wish list: facial recognition, a dilating pupil that changes based on light, infrared / UV capture, and geotagging, just to name a few.

How microsoft using patents to earn money

With exponential growth, Android announce coming of the search giant  Google on the equally exponentially growing smartphone market .Android not only fares well in the market but also leave behind mobile majors RIM’s Blackberry and of course , leader of all Apple’s very own ios  is no exception  here.
Android has seen phenomenal growth over the months from nowhere to everywhere ,riding high over  millions of smartphones have been sold so far thus farely captures 38% of smartphone market .

Browser wars : Again in 2011?

The browser war seems to be picking up momentum again with quicker releases of Firefox 5  against its usual release .Mozilla now wants  to be getting in the race which off course started by none other than search giant Google.
Since its inception Google’s Chrome wants to be fastest and smartest which ,if fact , seems heading in right direction with massive increase in its popularity over the time and it is its fast release cycle that prompts all favorite Mozllla’s Firefox joining  the bandwagon.

Obama vs. Zuckerberg: Who Won the Battle of the Buzz?

Internet users had a prime chunk of live programming to tune into online Wednesday afternoon.
At 1 p.m. ET, Facebook aired a live stream of a product announcement from Mark Zuckerberg. At 2 p.m. ET, U.S. President Barack Obama took questions from the Twittersphere during Twitter’s first ever live-streamed town hall.
So when one of the world’s most powerful companies and one of the world’s most powerful countries hold back-to-back Internet events, who gets more attention?
By several web measurements, Zuckerberg out-buzzed Obama yesterday afternoon.

Facebook(Skype) Video Chat vs. Google+ Hangouts

Last week, Google announced Google+, which includes a video chat feature called Hangouts. Yesterday, Facebook unveiled its Skype-powered Video Calling service. So, which one is better?

Google’s Hangouts feature allows up to 10 people to simultaneously engage in a group video chat. The main video feed switches based on who is speaking into the microphone.

Facebook’s Video Calling feature offers one-on-one video chat powered by Skype. The video functionality is available directly in Facebook Chat in over 70 different languages.

How To Move Your Facebook Photos To Picasa (Soon, Google Photos) In A Flash

I’m sure there’s more than one way to easily transfer your Facebook photos and albums to Google’s Picasa service (which will apparently be renamed Google Photos). If you know of a good method for moving from one to the other, do share it in a comment below, but I would like to highlight one thatlaunched very recently.
The aptly named Move2Picasa.com website lets you connect to your Facebook account, after which all your Facebook photos and albums will automatically be migrated over to Google’s Picasa service. Note: sans captions, comments and whatnot.
It admittedly took a couple of hours for me to get my Facebook photos transferred, but for people who don’t mind the wait and would like to move only their photos to Picasa / Google Photos, this is a more than adequate solution.
Evidently, the more photos you (and others) migrate, the longer the wait. Another caveat: it’s all or nothing – you can’t transfer specific photos or albums at this point.

Twitter Acquires Social Analytics Start-up BackType
