Google bought PittPatt to you know face to face

Google's quietly pitter-pattering its acquisitive ways back into the controversial realm of facial recognition technology. To do that, the company busted out its oversized wallet to fold Pittsburgh-based PittPatt into the Mountain View borg. Founded by a trio of PhD's from Carnegie Mellon University, this three-man strong outfit specializes in the sort of object recognition software you've come to know as "tagging." Is this a reversal of the Do No Evil tech giant's prior waffling on the dubious visioning tech, or just another massive weapon in its social networking crusade against Facebook? We'd err on the side of both, although the company's new employees aren't exactly playing their cards for us to see. A brief statement on the

Now, use Google credit cards to book ads

Google Inc is introducing a credit card for its advertising customers, offering its clients a credit line to try and drum up business as competition in the online ad market heats up.

The AdWords Business credit card marks Google's first foray into the world of vendor financing, common among hardware makers such as IBM Corp. It lets marketers spend more on its search ads when the need arises.Google is offering the card to select US clients with what it calls a competitive interest rate, an ample credit line and no annual fee. The catch: It can only be used to buy search advertising on the world’s No 1 internet search engine.

A study by online measurement company ComScore revealed it had doubled that number in the past seven days, despite the service remaining an invitation-only affair.

Google+ Added $20 Billion To Google’s Market Cap

How much is social worth to Google? Investors added $20 billion to Google’s market cap the first week after the launch of Google+ on June 28. A Morgan Stanley downgrade on Friday, brought the total down to $15.8 billion because of doubts whether Google will indeed be able to capitalize on new products such as Google+. But somewhere in between there, give or take a few billion, is how much more the market thinks Google is worth than before the launch of Google+.

Google renames picasa and blogger for Google+

If you are an active user of Google’s Picasa photo management tools or their Blogger blogging platform, you should prepare yourself for a change. News has broken that Google intends to drop those names from the products. This move is part of the Google+ service, which seems to be leading to a rebranding of Google’s web based tools.
Blogger and Picasa will not be shut down, however. The two service are among the most popular for the internet giant. They will simply be renamed to “Google Blogs” and “Google Photos” respectively. It is rumored that these two are the first of many services to get the Google rebranding treatment. Sources indicate that YouTube will not be changed.

Social Networking Showdown: 8 Facebook Features Google+ Doesn't Have (Yet)

Google's latest foray into social networking, called Google+, is being compared strongly to Facebook. But the two social networking platforms still have a number of differentiating features. We pointed outsix things that Google+ can do that Facebook can't, but it's just as interesting to highlight what Facebook does that Google+ doesn't—so far, that is.
"So far" because Google+ is still in a trial phase, so it's not yet officially live or open to all to join, which means Google could add more features and tweak existing ones between now and when it opens the doors .

Google takes on Facebook with Google+

Google has finally unveiled Google+, the company’s top secret social layer that turns all of the search engine into one giant social network.
Google+, which begins rolling out a very limited field test on Tuesday, is the culmination of a year-long project led by Vic Gundotra, Google’s senior vice president of social. The project, which has been delayedseveral times, constitutes Google’s answer to Facebook

Google launches Plus to take on Facebook

The battle for the eyeballs of social media network users is intensifying, with Google launching a demo version of 'Google+' (called Google Plus), the search engine giant's renewed attempt to take on Facebook in the social networking arena.
While designing the new service, Google has kept in mind social circles, called plus circles, and a Twitter-inspired feature that resembles real-life social interactions. It allows users to selectively share information with specific groups within defined circles, rather than sharing it with all their social connections at once. One can create as many circles as one wishes to, for whatever categories one wants, adding friends and contacts simply by clicking and dragging names onto various circles.
“This is just the beginning...We're just getting warmed up...launching what we call a field trial period, an invitation-only approach to help smooth out the rough edges,” said an official Google post on the demo site.

Mozilla FireFox 5 vs Google Chrome 12

I have been using Mozilla Firefox 5 since Mozilla developer announced it, firstly when I decide to add this post I was not going to compare between Mozilla Firefox 5 and Google Chrome 12, just to check Firefox 5 enhancements. But when I used couple benchmarks for checking HTML 5, JavaScript, and CSS 3, didn’t expect this result.

Google's SPDY Project: The Successor to HTTP?

If there’s anything Google loves as much as search, it’s speed. Chrome was built on a foundation of speed. Faster JavaScript, faster graphics acceleration, faster browser startup. Google Code has a page dedicated specifically to speed. And on top of all that, Google started a project called SPDY (SPeeDY. Get it?) that aims to reach beyond the influence of the Chrome browser to speed up the entire web.
Until now, SPDY has been an internal experiment at Google--as you can imagine, rolling out a protocol that modifies HTTP is no easy task. That’s exactly what SPDY does, and Google’s used the protocol to lower page load times by as much as 64%. To take the first step into the web at large, Google’s partnering with an optimization company called Strangeloop--together they’ll insert SPDY into a software layer between Internet servers and users.
