Browser Speed Test – iOS 4 Vs. Windows Phone 7

Windows Phone 7 browser speed test
Folks at Modmyi point us to a speed test conducted by an Israeli technology blog where the browser speed on iPhone 3GS running iOS 4and a Samsung handset running the upcomingWindows Phone 7 operating system are compared.
The test, a video of which is embedded further down in this post, shows that the new Windows OS may not hold a candle to iOS 4 with respect to browser performance.

For the study, the website measured the page loading time on the Mobile Safari browser on an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4 and compared it with the loading time on a mobile IE browser on a Samsung handset running Windows Phone 7.

iPhone (iOS 4) Vs Windows Phone 7: UI Compared

Folks at Pocket Now have published an interesting comparison of iOS 4 running on aniPhone 4 with Windows Phone 7 running on a LG phone.
In the video, they have compared the user interface of the unlock screen, homescreen, multitasking and accessibility to audio playback controls of the two mobile operation systems.

Here are some of the observations from the comparison:

IN DEPTH: IOS VS ANDROID VS WEBOS VS MEEGO

Pitting iOS vs Android vs WebOS vs MeeGo doesn\’t appear like a fair fight.
It’s akin to putting a couple of our TechRadar writers in a boxing ring with the Klitschko brothers. With Apple\’s iPhone/iPod/iPad OS, Google\’s Android, plus the Symbian, Microsoft and Blackberry platforms, do we truly need any more pretenders to the mobile OS throne?
Yes – due to the fact \’competition drives innovation\’ (or so the saying goes). Android improvements will make iOS much better and vice-versa. Whilst lower-league operating systems will have to work harder to stand out, they\’ll assist to make sure that the massive two do not get complacent.
And yes again – simply because beyond the smartphone battleground, the next big tech confrontation is about to be fought on tablet devices.
It\’s not just a straight iPad vs Android face-off, either. HP is prepping a very good-searching \’PalmPad\’ running WebOS, and Nokia is looking to show off its mobile expertise in a MeeGo-powered tablet.
Let\’s see how the four mobile platforms compare.

iOS 4.3 vs Android 3.0 vs webOS: which is the best tablet OS?

ios-4-3

We've already pitched iOS vs Android vs webOS vs MeeGo on TechRadar, but that was purely on the specs and and experience of earlier versions. We've now used and evaluated all the three main tablet OS options.
And although we won't have Windows on a tablet quite yet, the battle between the tablet operating systems is set to hot up over the next few months as iOS 4.3 emerges with the iPad 2 and we see the plethora of Android 3.0 Honeycomb devices hit the streets with the Motorola XoomSamsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and others.

Apple iOS 4 vs. Google Android 2.3: How Do They Stack Up?

The competition between Apple and Google is getting intense as the two companies battle for supremacy in the smartphone business.
Last month, Google updated its Android operating system, introducing Android 2.3, aka FroYo.  On Monday, Apple shot back by making its latest mobile operating system, iOS 4 — formerly called iPhone OS 4.0 — official.

Apple iCloud brings previously purchased apps back from the dead

Lamenting the time you restored your iPhone and lost that beloved VLC app because it's no longer available on the App Store? Cheer up, there's an iCloud for that. The service allows you to re-download any app you've previously purchased on any of your iOS devices -- including killed apps. We decided to give it a whirl, testing our luck with an iPhone 3GS humming along on iOS 4.3.3. Upon browsing the Purchases section of the App Store, we beheld Tris, an app that hasn't been available in nearly three years. Sure enough, we pressed the iCloud icon and within seconds, the ol' Tetris clone was back in action. So if you were one of the four people that downloaded I am Rich before it was killed, you'll be sure to enjoy that $1,000 investment for years to come.

Apple to unveil iCloud, iOS 5 on Monday, June 6

Apple to unveil iCloud Monday, June 6
Had some doubts that Apple was heading skyward? Those lingering concerns can now be put to rest. Apple has confirmed that it will be announcing iCloud on June 6th, what it's calling an "upcoming cloud services offering." That will be part of the keynote for this year's Worldwide Developers Conference, known to the cool kids as WWDC. This is, of course, where everyone has come to expect new iPhones to come to light, but this year we're thinking the focus will be more on software, and indeed Apple's event notice indicates that the big highlights will be Mac OS X Lion and the next version of its mobile operating system, iOS 5. This is a decidedly non-Apple way to announce something big like iCloud, making us wonder what other surprises Steve Jobs will have for us at the event -- yes, he'll be kicking things off. As ever you can find out as it happens here, live.

Apple looking to 'radically improve' iOS Maps experience, may look to you for help

It's tough to read too much into this, but when Apple publishes a couple of job applications hoping to bring on folks who can "radically improve how people interact with maps and location-based services," we can't help but take note. The outfit's currently seeking a pair of full-timers to be labeled as iOS Maps Application Developers, and it's honing in on applicants with "excellent skills in object-oriented software design and programming." We've felt for awhile that Apple's built-in Maps application wasn't even comparable to Google Maps Navigation, but it could be time for that to change. Even now, iOS users need to fork out cash on a legitimate turn-by-turn app if they're hoping to navigate with the iPod touch or iPhone, but we can only hope that these applications are hinting at a more full-fledged internal program for the software's next major iteration.'Course, we're sure TomTom would beg to disagree...

Apple iOS 4.3 coming March 11 with iPad 2, includes new AirPlay features and FaceTime

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/03/20110302-10322071--img4602.jpg
Along with the iPad 2, Apple's releasing the final version of iOS 4.3, which features the Nitro Javscript engine from Safari on OS X, new iTunes Home Sharing features that let you play content from desktop iTunes over WiFi, and the updated suite of AirPlay features from the betas -- including the ability for App Store apps to share audio and video. Apple's also finalizing the new option that lets you assign the side switch to either rotation lock or mute, and it's adding Personal Hotspot support. There's also those rumored iOS versions of Photo Booth and FaceTime for the new cameras. It'll be a free download for all iPads, the GSM iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS and the third- and fourth-gen iPod touch when it's released on March 11. When will it hit the Verizon iPhone 4? We don't know yet.

Kinect hackers give us iOS-friendly dodgeball and Human Tetris

Remember that Microsoft Rally Ball demo from a few days ago that showed Windows Phone 7's integration with Xbox? Well, the gang at Supertouch has stolen a bit of Ballmer's thunder with a new Kinect hack that lets you hurl digital orbs at your Kinect-controlling friend using an iOS device instead of a WP7 handset. The graphics for the game and the iDevice controls aren't nearly as pretty as Microsoft's cross-platform gaming solution, but the end result is pretty much the same -- flingin' balls with a phone while your friend dodges them courtesy of Kinect.

Meanwhile, Frog Design has added a Human Tetris game to the Kinect's repertoire where players perfect their Vogue-ing skills by striking a pose to match an approaching cut-out on screen. Finally, all the shape-shifting fun with none of the goofy silver jumpsuits. Vids are after the break.
