Kinect hackers give us iOS-friendly dodgeball and Human Tetris

Remember that Microsoft Rally Ball demo from a few days ago that showed Windows Phone 7's integration with Xbox? Well, the gang at Supertouch has stolen a bit of Ballmer's thunder with a new Kinect hack that lets you hurl digital orbs at your Kinect-controlling friend using an iOS device instead of a WP7 handset. The graphics for the game and the iDevice controls aren't nearly as pretty as Microsoft's cross-platform gaming solution, but the end result is pretty much the same -- flingin' balls with a phone while your friend dodges them courtesy of Kinect.

Meanwhile, Frog Design has added a Human Tetris game to the Kinect's repertoire where players perfect their Vogue-ing skills by striking a pose to match an approaching cut-out on screen. Finally, all the shape-shifting fun with none of the goofy silver jumpsuits. Vids are after the break.

  3. All I have to say to this article is, "so?". How is this stealing thunder from Microsoft? So there's a hack on iOS with crappy graphics. That's super. If the rolls were reversed I highly doubt there would have been talk of Microsoft stealing any thunder from Jobs.

I appreciate hacks on any platform, but just report the facts and avoid inserting bias, please. If you want the true experience you still have to have WP7.

Saying this has stolen some of MS thunder misses the point of the MS demonstration. Their demonstration wasn't just about Kinect but the interaction between WP7 and Xbox. I can see it's just a matter of time when there are multiple player games with people playing the Xbox, WP7 and Windows PC together. Play Halo on the Xbox, leave get on the subway and continue playing on your phone.

  7. Still, not a true hack as both devices (XBox 360 and Kinect) are running native OS with none of the encrypted IP touched. Everyone is still buying/using both to accomplish this pseudohack. It's like saying I hacked my computers USB port by adding a device to it for reasons outside USB standards. meh...

  8. The first video is cool, but the music is very annoying. It reminds me of the stuff they play during the Engadget Show with a couple of GameBoys and some other weird gadgets :S

(I'm sure a lot of people like it, it's just a matter of taste)

  9. Why Kinect hack for iOS? I think Kinect hack for PS3 must be more fun than for iOS.

  10. Cute - BUT I really wish Hackers would develop technology using Kinects for a disabled person to interact in the realistic cyber world, you know e-mail, word processing, and video conferencing. It would revolutionize the Assistive Technology world by offering an interface at a fraction of the cost of today deployed traditional computer based technology.
