Google's Cr-48 netbook now surfing on AT&T's GSM network (after a gentle hack)

Man, I can't WAIT until I can use 500mb/month on a laptop. I'll be able to watch YouTube videos for AT LEAST 10 minutes with that. Then when I'm done, I'll just turn it off, because I can't play any real games on it either!
ReplyDeleteI still wish I'd get mine. a free computer would be lovely.
ReplyDeleteYup. You can actually flip a hidden switch under the battery and install Windows, Ubuntu and Mac OS X on it. but I heard it does require a lot of work..
ReplyDeleteI got mine today after applying during winter break in december. It was buried in about a foot of snow and they had probably delivered it earlier this week and the only reason I found it was because I was cleaning the snow off of the porch. Surprisingly it still worked and im loving it. At first I thought it was a bomb or something because I didn't remember ordering something and when I opened the shipping box I saw drawings on a box with what looked like hand written numbers. I opened it and I realised what it was and that made my day.
ReplyDeleteThat made your day?! It hasn't got any text editing features, you can't listen to your music collection, you can't make presentations, it doesn't work without electricity.. Basically, you can't use it for real work. that cloud thingy is overhyped. Sure, it was free, but it looks awful and is made by an advertising company that's about to sell your data to the hobo down the street.
ReplyDeleteThe troll, also has a putrid smell from a distance, warning all within a 50 post radius of their presence. However, regardless of their single-minded tactics, the troll remains a dangerous and tenacious, if not annoying, opponent.
ReplyDeleteI received my cr-48 on friday the 4th and it shipped on the 2nd, I wasn't even expecting one since i had signed up as a individual on the 2nd day of the program and once Christmas passed I figured I wasn't going to get one.
ReplyDeleteUps just dropped it off on my steps , no email and it is one of the ones packed with the stickers.
I'm running it on the dev channel to connect with wpa2 and aes. It isn't a great performer but considering it is spec'd fairly weakly even for a netbook I'd say it will see a ton of use from my as a internet device but I'm realistic that Flash will be were it struggles so I'm using ad-block to disable some adds which seems to be helping.
I might try a different OS on it since I've been wanting to mess with a UEFI install but I think I'll wait till the novelty wears off cause right now it is pretty fun to play with.
I think a lot of people might be getting one this week since the big blizzard that hit the mid-west delayed mine at least a day so hopefully others will get a change to play with one still.
Thanks, this still gives me hope that I will get one. I was lucky enough to get a free Google TV. Lets see if I get a Cr-48 also.
ReplyDeleteI signed up for a bunch of them early. Now I've got these damn things laying around everywhere. I use them as coasters, doorstops, frisbees, plates... You name it! I've even attached straps to a couple of them that I use as shoes! This just makes them even more useful!
ReplyDeleteI tried with Tmo last night as well and could not get it to actually connect to 3G. Could have been shotty signal since I regularly get edge data where I was. But its still awesome.
