The rumored Xperia Neo still isn't official -- we think we're probably looking at MWC next week for that -- but there are enough floating around at this point so that they're getting tested pretty thoroughly (or, at least as thoroughly as you can test a pre-production device). The latest tidbit comes via a series of videos and stills that put the phone's 8.1 megapixel sensor through its paces; frankly, they look a little washed out, but it's really common for camera performance to improve by leaps and bounds through firmware updates right up until a phone's commercial release so we don't want to sound the alarm quite yet. My Android Life has also thrown together a quick video walkthrough of the UI, where you see that Sony Ericsson seems to be standardizing on the same experience first seen on the Xperia Arc and later on the Xperia Play -- highly widgetized with a Gingerbread core. All things considered, it seems the Arc's a higher-end device -- but if the price is right, this Neo could win some hearts as well. Follow the break for the UI walkthrough.

Will this thing ask you whether you want to take the red pill or the blue pill?
ReplyDeleteNo, that's the Xperia Morpheus. Duh.
ReplyDeleteSony Ericsson is lovely for us.................dailynews1001.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteSony knows that they're allowed to make phones that look different from each other right?
ReplyDeleteI like this reworked Timescape more than the previous with those lame buttons in the corners.
ReplyDeleteFor me I think if Sony Ericsson listen to what there customer want =D Own!!! However it doesn't =(
ReplyDeleteI think that
ReplyDeleteXperia Arc = Satio
Xperia Neo = Vivaz
Xperia Play = Xperia x10
Just like what they did last year o_o
this is a pointless phone yet agen whats idfferrent bout this phone? only has gingerbread
ReplyDeleteSame can be said of any phone. Not like it is going to do anything magical because it has a dual core processor or some other spec. They all do the same thing.
ReplyDeletewow, what an ugly phone with the ugly UI
ReplyDeleteSony, swallow your pride and adopt WP7. It's freaking responsive, that's something.
ReplyDeleteSony phone running Xbox live? LOL. Never gonna happen, especially with Sony pushing their Playstation suite.
ReplyDeleteSo what are the main differences between this and the Arc? Seems like most of the spec are identical, other than the Arc having a sleeker physical form.
ReplyDeleteSE, this is your chance. Please don't screw up.
1. Larger screen (3,7 vs 4,2)
ReplyDelete2. Arc on MSM8255 vs Neo MSM7630 platform
3. Arc is lighter than Neo even though it's larger.
4. Also the screen looked a little nicer on Arc than on Neo, though still very good.
The most expensive part on a phone is the screen.
Didn't realize the Neo uses a slower CPU. Thanks.
ReplyDelete8.1 megapixel camera? Sorry, I like whole numbered sensors, no way I'm purchasing this.
ReplyDeleteDitch the front facing camera and the price would have been cheaper. I liked the X10 mini for what it was - a compact phone. This offers much more IMO but it also needs to be priced around the same level as the Wildfire 2
ReplyDeleteOverall I liked the X10 even with 1.6 so I would at least take a look at this. But I am waiting to see the Arc. I have not been impressed with HTC, Samsung or LG so far. If I decide to suffer through more of Android's constant updates and fragmentation then this or the Arc will be on the list along with the Motorola Atrix. I had planned on trying a WP7 phone but the OS is so bare bones now it is not worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteThey could get away with this design 2 years ago but by now it's so archaic it just looks downright ugly IMO. Looks pretty much exactly like the X10 with some bumped specs, I guess if you always wanted an update for your X10 this is the phone to get, since it appears pretty much identical. But seriously, the atrix outclasses this in every possible way and Motorola's track record of updates is... well... they have one unlike SE. My sister got an X10 mini pro and she loves the fact she never gets updates because nothing ever changes to her phone, but for everyone else let's hope SE ups their game with future devices.

ReplyDeleteThere should be ban on people taking videos in portrait mode... unless this was shot sideways on purpose??
I've had the chance to play with Xperia Neo for 2 days and if they price it right, this could really be a big-seller for SE. Featuring the same Exmore R sensor camera module as Arc, Gingerbread 2.3, HDMI and all packed into a rather pretty mid-range package makes this good value for money it it's priced around 300-350Euros unlocked. I did like it, it's not targeted as high end but feels really snappy and SE has only pretty much changed the colors of the skin and added a few SE-apps (Timescape, a really nice mediaplayer with equalizer and so on).
