LG G-Slate handled on video, looks like a giant Optimus 2X

The wonders you can find on YouTube, eh? LG's G-Slate (to be known as the Optimus Pad outside the US) has made yet another appearance on Google's video repository, this time giving us a whirl to show off its slender body and port and speaker arrangement. The integrated 3D cameras also get a demo, as you can see above, though we're much more excited to be able to churn out 1080p video with this device thanks to the Tegra 2 SOC it's built around. Its smartphone buddy the Optimus 2X delivered some very smooth output and we can't see any reason why the G-Slate should do any worse. Make your way past the break for all the intimate video action.

[Thanks, KC]

  2. If the Xoom is selling for close to $800, I doubt this will be cheaper considering the similar specs.

  3. The great thing about Android is there are other ways besides the Market to get your apps, so that's no excuse. Slideme.org is one of them, or you can buy straight from some developers.
There's piracy as a last resort.

I'm in South Africa which also doesn't have paid apps in the Android Market, but I still have no problem getting the apps I want. So I know what it's like.

  8. Ok seriously over hearing the "this phone or tablet looks like this other phone or tablet" argument. The market has decided what the ideal portable tablet shape is, essentially a flat brick with a screen, some with buttons some without. If you put the top ten smartphones next to each other, you will struggle to work out which is which (few obvious exceptions).

You can make them different colours but marketers have already worked out that you as a consumer will only buy devices in black white or silver.

Theres only so many variations on design you can make and similar to the laptop market all these devices will become indistinguishable.

  11. As usual they do not know the difference between "front-facing" and "front-mounted" . All cameras have "front-facing" lenses just like the eyes in our heads. This is the best arrangement for taking pictures of the scene that we are looking at. Now think about the rear-view mirror is a car, yes indeed, it faces the rear so that we can see behind us. Note that we can also see our own reflection in the mirror. Now hold your phone beside the rear-view mirror. What do you notice?
The camera for video-calls shows a similar picture to the rear-view mirror....that is to say it is "rear-facing".
When you use the main lens of the phone it will be looking out through the windshield because it is front-facing.

Anybody still not clear about this?

  12. I guess you would really have to like 3D to where it everywhere. : ) You really only put the glasses on when your viewing the content. I think it's actually cool to have the options. I'd like to see the format it would record for video & how much memory you could put in it. Since the cameras are set on this thing and you can't adjust which is fine. But you'll need to have some instructions for new users for the rules of shooting 3D with your camera that distance apart. Their are limitations. Good 3D & Bad 3D.

  15. As long as it runs Honeycomb. If it acts like Optimus 2X with a supersized version of a phone OS then it's no good. Looks like physically is fine.
