LG's been mighty stingy with details about its 3D smartphone, but some very promising ones have just trickled out of Barcelona ahead of Mobile World Congress -- in keeping with the company's theme of doubling everything, the LG Optimus 3D will ship with a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP 4 chip. Considering that we've seen that particular SOC drive three screens, we're guessing that a single 4.3-inch stereo display (yes, 4.3-inch is confirmed) will be old hat, and we've certainly seen the included PowerVR SGX540 graphics throw around some weight in many a Galaxy S. Raw specs aside, though, the Optimus 3D has a feature that we've been waiting on in Android for a while: LG says it will have "four times more video decoders than competing designs." Admittedly, that probably means it will still only recognize about eight video formats in total, but as long as we can play the vast majority of our anime music video library without re-encoding the lot, we'll promise to only grumble occasionally. Deal? PR after the break.

wow thats big, funny how phones used to be as big as a brick then they got so small you that you could make a phone call with just your watch now they just going bigger again
ReplyDeleteWhoa.... this looks huge
ReplyDeleteCould you guys imagine playing Angry Birds on this? or Modern combat Sandstorm 3D??
ReplyDeleteI hope the quality of the Optimus 3D is better than the quality of the LG birds.
ReplyDeleteBirds score: 1 out of 3 (middle one in the above pic., the other 2 can be used as Angry Birds so we can throw them to some pigs...)
booth babes are going down in quality =/
ReplyDeleteTry our new vanilla waifs!
ReplyDeletePf, they should have used korean girls.
ReplyDeleteI call dibs on the middle one.
ReplyDeleteThis 3D thing absolutely stinks of fad. There is no need for 3D on a phone, nor do i have any desire to watch a movie with glasses strapped to my face. Until someone comes out with a cheap enough to be viable glasses free 3D solution, I'm out. I'll stick with a good 2D 1080p blu-ray with 5.1 surround for now. Suits my needs perfectly and doesn't break the bank. And when it comes to phones, iPhone 5 will tear all of these new superphones up purely because of the app quality. You could have a quad core Android device with 8GB of RAM and the apps, bugs and inconsistencies will still drag it back down the pecking order.
ReplyDeleteIf you were not so fanboy-blind you would see that this is glasses free 3d - similar as the new nintendo 3ds.
ReplyDeleteI just hope your magical iPhone5 can leave 2007 behind it and have a better then 3.5" screen and a gazillion apps won't make up for the boring rows of app icons plus some folders. I never seem to install more then about 30 apps on my devcie so having more to choose from means SFA as long as i can find what i want an need the rest are of zero value to me, Of course we are not all the same but even iPhone fans are now saying they want more from thier devcie this time round or may look elsewhere.
ReplyDeletei think the key part of this comment is "nor do i have the desire". I do have the desire so yes, it is needed :-) Oh and isnt this 3d glasses free??? Kinda defeats your point altogether.
ReplyDeleteThese birds can press my home-button, anyday!
ReplyDeleteWonder how the Windows Phone 7/Nokia girls will look?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe it will be men with hairy chests?
hopefully they look better than this... this year workforce cuts are giving such a bad image... phones itself look better than the ladies, before it used to be the opposite.
ReplyDeleteLG girls > Samsung girls
ReplyDeleteSamsung use real Koreans, so they get my vote
ReplyDeleteimho, the blonde with the pearl earrings gets my vote. However, I voted all for Sammy's MWC girls
ReplyDeleteI said it 1ce & I will say it again . . . Ugly booth babes ftw
ReplyDeleteDon't judge . . . This helps me with my selfesteam
it's too small...c'mon i'm 5' 5'' it looks like i have a pan in the pants...
ReplyDeleteCould be my next phone :)
ReplyDeleteWow, those chicks make the phones look ginormous, going into the old MID category.
