Here's one way to solve a chicken-and-egg dilemma: crank out 15 million chickens. That's seem to be the plan for Samsung and LG, anyway -- Samsung plans to sell 10 million 3D TVs this year, up five times from the two million it sold last year, while LG plans to sell some 5 million. Now, it's unclear whether this increase in sales will come as a result of consumer demand for 3D or simply because almost all new TVs will be 3D-capable, but we're hoping that pesky 3D content problem will get a lot better once more people can actually view it -- assuming anyone actually wants to wear the glasses, that is.

That TV looks awesome! Floaty-Floaty!
ReplyDeleteonly 9.999.999 to go as my Samsung 63" 3D plasma just arrived this week. Even if you don't care for 3D these are great flat screens that excel in 2D quality.
ReplyDeletethey cant even beat the 3-4 yrs old pioneer Kuro, how sad :( , instead they waste time bringing all sort of gimmick (just to sell for high prices) and neglect the true goal of tv, which is a good picture.
ReplyDelete’s all just marketing hype.
ReplyDeleteWake me up when some real innovation takes place. As it is for now having to wear glasses is a complete deal breaker. I purposely avoid going to 3D movies because of the uncomfortable glasses. I’m definitely not going to pay to bring that garbage into my living room. As it is for now, I’m loving my one year old 55” LED TV just the way it is.
Ive got a 2 year old plasma and for much as people like to pass over them for led's and LCD TVs, I think the picture quality is just as good, not to mention 600hz refresh... I just can't justify spending any more money on a new one til something comes along and makes me look at my plasma like, "whoa, I used to watch THAT??"
ReplyDeleteFirst TV sets, Color TVs and remote control. These were the 3 main innovations that it is worth to buy a new TV.
ReplyDeleteIn last few years LCD TVs made the same impact and I get that.
But 3D TVs? Now? I don't think so.
It is hard to convince people to buy a new tv every 2-3 year.
I love technology and gadgets but could care less about 3D. There are less than 5 cable channels in 3D and most movies that are shot in 3D are garbage.
ReplyDeletePiranha 3D and Shrek 3D are the type of movies choices that are out now....no thanks and I love my Samsung LED tv with a 5 million to 1 contrast ratio, 240 Hz refresh rate, and Blu Ray in 1080p.
Last but not least...I don't EVER want to wear any damn glasses to watch sports or a movie.
hey Samsung and LG, instead of wasting your time on childish gimmicks like 3D spend your R&D dollars on actual technical innovations like higher resolutions and color accuracy.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteHow about putting every resource into making larger and affordable OLED TVs?
We all would love one please!
Does Samsung think women will sell their 3D TV's? Just sayin
