Samsung Epic 4G officially signed up for Froyo starting February 21st

Weary Epic 4G owners, wonder no more about your phone's long-overdue update to Android 2.2, because the rumors were true: it's nearly here. Sprint has thrown up a support page detailing the build EB13 upgrade that will kick off on February 21st, saying that all customers "should" have it by the 25th through a phased over-the-air rollout. Besides the usual Android 2.2 goodies, the update promises "GPS enhancements," which is something that pretty much every Galaxy S owner around the world is always on the lookout for with every new firmware version. Of course, we'll believe this all when it actually starts happening -- but it's a good sign.

  1. WAAAYYY too late on the delivery, Sprint/Samsung, what happened to within a month from launch? Wasn't the Epic actually supposed to be the first Galaxy S phone to get the update? I mean nowadays most phones come with 2.2 as it is, and with many coming out at 2.3.

I couldn't understand that GalaxyS' Froyo update is late. My friend, lived in Korea, use Galaxy S and that was already updated Froyo in November. I guess that was because of wireless company.

Samsung will start updating Gingerbread after Galaxy S2's release, according to president Shin Jong-Kyun saying. (So, maybe, it will be April) I hope that your phone get update as soon as possible.

  5. cool...so can someone explain to me how the updates becomes so "fragmented", cause it's annoying that the badass phone you buy doesnt get updates for months at a time..and when that update comes out its already 6 months behind? how the heck does it work? does it have to do with the carriers? or what...? (im just too lazy to google it to be honest..)

  7. Too late. Although I'll keep my phone for the duration of my contract (unless I can opt out somehow), this will be my last Samsung phone. Long term satisfaction is just as important as initial impression if not more, especially for a phone.

  10. Good start, but they (Samsung) really need to pick up the slack in updating their android phones, especially when Ice cream will probably be out by the end of the year.

  12. This is good I guess. Now the devs will have some material to make more roms with. :)

oh and if you dont own an android and haven't flashed a rom on it, dont tell us how shitty custom roms are on it. Just because "your friend" or someone you know told you something, doesn't make you an expert. I have flashed tons of roms on many different phones and I can tell you that 97% of the time the custom rom improves over the stock, thats the point.

case and point I have an aria around here running 2.3 gingerbread and its stable, butter smooth and lightning fast. And the aria is still "officially" running 2.1. If updates are SUCH a big deal then do it. Dont give me shit aobut warranties becuase in every forum where they have roms, they have the stock rom to flash back if needed. Nevermind the fact the most never use the warranty anyway. Flashing roms on android is probably the easiest I have ever done. It takes about 5 minutes from start to having all your apps and settings all restored, no bull. I know I am not going to convince an ipsued that anything is worthwhile or works good on android as they are just closed minded. Same goes for a phandroid though as they will never concede anything good about the iphone. But hopefully someone that owns an android and is thinking about flashing a rom will just go and do it. You wont be sorry.

Rabble rabble rabble. Pffff android is so fragmented that I am surprised the phones even turn on. Hell you cant even send text messages. I mean why would you buy a phone for the features it has, hell I buy phones for the bug fixes and minute features it might get in the furture. We all know that if you dont update a phone it will completely stop working and actually kill your grandma if left alone. Dont kill grandma android.

  14. Wonder what's gonna happen to folks who installed DK28? I installed that on my wife's Epic ages ago. Thank goodness my Evo didn't have to wait so long.
